Public Event of MARLITER

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) organized a Public Event with news conference and stakeholder participation, within the project MARLITER “Improved online public access to environmental monitoring data and data tools for the Black Sea Basin supporting cooperation in the reduction of marine litter” with funding from the Joint Operational Program “Black Sea Basin 2014-2020”, part of the European Neighborhood Instrument. The Public Event took place on Tuesday 27 November, at the hall “Konstantinos Kastritsis”, on the 10th floor of the School of Biology, AUTH. Stakeholders, students, volunteers, representatives of Research Institutes, NGOs, representatives of enterprises, businesses and local and regional public authorities attended the event. AUTH research team presented the project objectives, activities and expected outputs. Through the presentations, the serious issue of marine litter and the necessity of taking joint actions and contributing to the improvement of the public online access to available data and tools for environmental monitoring and to the support of adaptive management policies, education and capacity building to reduce marine litter, were highlighted. In addition, the idea and the concept of the ICT based tool, which is going to be developed during the project, were also presented. The event was considered successful while the project attracted interest from various stakeholders and the media.
